The BIOMARES Program has enabled the development of scientific activities and conservation actions that support the management of the Marine Park. This program started in 2007 as an initiative that counted on the involvement of several public and private entities, with the objectives of inverting the tendency of biodiversity loss that was verified at the Marine Park, and promoting the recovery of degraded habitats. Some of the work carried out under this program aims to better understand and characterize this very special ecosystem, others seek to actively recover the biodiversity of the Marine Park or contribute to assessing the effectiveness of management measures. There is still a lot of work developed with the local communities in mind, seeking their support and involvement, since everyone recognizes the value of this special sea.
