The Marine Park is a true oasis of marine life. Altogether, more than 2000 species have been found in these waters. So many species in just 53 km2 shows the unique character of this Marine Park. The environmental and geographic conditions of the Arrábida coast allow the existence of different types of habitats, some of which are key for the reproduction, feeding and refuge of many species. Several species of high commercial value spend important stages of their life cycle in these waters. The biodiversity of the Marine Park is therefore a source of livelihood for fishing, a feature deeply embedded in the identity of local communities.
